Spinner Wheel Generator
Custom Spinners in Seconds
Spinner wheels are one of the most recognizable game components in existence. From The Game of Life's career spinner to party games like Twister, the spinner adds an element of physical randomness that dice cannot replicate. In classroom settings, spinners are used for vocabulary drills, random student selection, and probability lessons. And in board game prototyping, a quick spinner is often faster to produce than custom dice.
Chitmunk's spinner wheel generator lets you create print-ready spinner graphics with any number of segments, custom labels, and your choice of colors. You configure the spinner visually, place it on your card or board design, and export it at print resolution. No drawing, no math, no fighting with pie-chart tools in Illustrator.
How It Works
The spinner generator renders a circular wheel divided into colored segments. You control every aspect of its appearance:
- Segments: add as many as you need. Each segment gets its own label and color. A simple spinner might have 4 segments; a complex one might have 12 or more.
- Labels: each segment displays a text label, rendered radially along the segment. Use short labels like numbers, single words, or icons. The generator handles text positioning automatically.
- Colors: assign any color to each segment. Use contrasting colors for clarity, or follow your game's color scheme.
- Pointer: optionally show a pointer arrow at the top of the wheel. The pointer gives the spinner a clear read point when printed.
- Donut mode: set an inner radius to create a donut-shaped spinner with a hollow center. The center can hold a logo, a label, or a fastener for a physical spinner.
- Border: set the border color and width for crisp edges at any print size.
- Font size: adjust label text to fit your segment width and print dimensions.
Every setting updates the live preview instantly. When you click Apply, the spinner appears on your canvas as a single element that you can move, resize, and layer with other design components.
Who Uses Spinner Wheels?
Party game designers. Spinners add drama and physicality to party games. Design a spinner with action prompts, dare categories, or point values, print it as part of your game board, and add a spinner arrow with a brass fastener.
Board game prototypers. When you need a randomizer but do not want to source custom dice, a printed spinner on a card is the fastest path from idea to playtest. Generate the spinner, print the card, and test your probability distribution at the table.
Teachers and educators. Spinners are a classroom staple. Build spinners for vocabulary review, math drills, random group assignment, or probability exercises. Generate them in Chitmunk, export as PNG, and print on cardstock.
Event planners. Prize wheels for raffles, trade show booths, and corporate events. Design a branded spinner with your company colors and prize labels, then print it as a large-format poster or mount it on foam board.
Content creators. Streamers and YouTubers use spinner wheels for random selection segments. Generate a custom spinner graphic that matches your channel branding, then use it as an overlay or print prop.
Spinners vs. Dice
Dice and spinners serve the same purpose: generating random outcomes, but they offer different design advantages:
- Custom probabilities. Dice are limited to equal-probability faces. A spinner can have segments of unequal size, giving you weighted outcomes without needing loaded dice.
- Visual clarity. A spinner shows all possible outcomes at a glance. Players can see what they might land on before spinning, which builds anticipation.
- No components to lose. If the spinner is printed directly on the board, it cannot roll under the couch.
- Physical engagement. Flicking a spinner arrow is a satisfying tactile experience that adds energy to the table, especially in games aimed at younger players.
Printing Tips
For a functional physical spinner:
- Generate your spinner in Chitmunk and export it as a high-resolution PNG (300 DPI).
- Print on heavy cardstock or mount on chipboard for durability.
- Punch a small hole in the center.
- Attach a spinner arrow with a brass paper fastener. The arrow should spin freely.
- For prototypes, a paperclip held by a pencil tip at the center works in a pinch.
If you are producing a print-on-demand game through TheGameCrafter, you can include the spinner as part of a game board or custom tile component. Chitmunk supports all TGC component sizes and can upload directly to their service.
